Great Job, No Capital

Ronnie and Jennifer would be classified as a success story in that they are slowly moving out of impoverished situations into more of a lower middle class category.  Years ago when they were first married, they would have been considered among the “urban poor.”  Unlike many who migrate from rural areas to the city looking for work and end up living in destitute conditions with

no work, Ronnie had a stable job in a furniture-making factory, working his way up to a supervisor.

They had a three-bedroom family inheritance home that a dozen people lived in (parents, three adult children plus wives plus children) in a stable community.  Every time a typhoon came through (on the average of 24 per year), their house would get flooded, oftentimes up to their waist.  Their refrigerator would be floating in the water and they would all migrate to the second floor.

After the furniture factories ceased to exist in Mandaue City, Ronnie decided to venture out on his own and be self-employed designing furniture and providing modular services.  They also were able to move into their own rented quarters.  This new job has provided for the family needs (4 children) but it is usually month-to-month as his services are not well-known in the city.

A church in the city that also runs a school asked Ronnie to build partitions in the restrooms.  In order to secure the contract, he needed to provide the capital for purchasing all of the materials up front.  Hope Eternal Asia is assisting them with the $1441 that is needed in capital.  This is a short-term loan of three months until the school pays for his services.

Ronnie & Jennifer are members of New Life Community Church along with one of their adult children.  They enjoy their two grandchildren now as well.  Their dream is to build their own house for living in (Jennifer is a real estate agent) and to build a small workshop or factory next door for the expansion of Ronnie’s business.
